Our top five new year’s business resolutions for 2019

With the festive period now gone and done, it’s time to embrace 2019 – that means thinking about all the things you’ll do differently, and the huge impact it can have on your life.

But while your personal life could undoubtedly benefit from that attention, many people forget to include their business in the mix. So, to help your business have the best 2019 possible, Kiss has curated a list of our top five business resolutions for the new year!

1: Time for a brand refresh
When you look at your website, do you see
a true reflection of your business as it stands today – or is it an example of where your business was three years ago? Businesses are like people: they mature, develop, become more confident, and change with time and experience. It’s vitally important that the brand you’re asking your customers to buy in to still reflects the business behind it.

2: Show your business off online!
You could have the best website in the world – it won’t matter if no one sees it. There are lots of ways you can help people discover your website: social media, blogging, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising, email campaigns, and more. How many of those do you use? And how well do you use them? Creating a beautiful, on-brand, website, but never driving traffic towards it is like cooking a feast and not inviting anyone to eat it.

3: Be consistent
A surprising number of businesses are under-utilising the digital space as a communications tool. There’s nothing wrong with using a phone – but if you don’t use emails too, you’re missing out on a trick. And if you don’t use your audience’s favourite social media platform, you’re choosing to not be part of lots of important information. How do you get good at using new media? CONSISTENCY! That’s all it takes – post well, post often, answer every email or Facebook message, and don’t ignore the stuff you’re sent. Think of digital as another (albeit, much larger) phone – you wouldn’t leave it ringing, or decide you don’t need one in the office, would you?

4: Be targeted
One area where companies still go wrong (but they really shouldn’t) is in targeting. Here is a simple rule: care more about what your audience likes. You should stop talking to them about things that only interest you, and start making the conversation more relevant to them. In the digital world, if you bore people, they will just go elsewhere. Luckily, digital innovations make targeting easier than ever before: fantastic analytic tools let you drill down into your audience’s likes and dislikes and helps you tailor your marketing accordingly.

5: Be aspirational!
The simplest (and probably most difficult) new year’s resolution has been left until last: become an aspirational brand. This just means becoming a brand that your audience wants to be a part of. Of course, it’s easier said than done. But here’s a tip in getting there: step one is making sure your brand is actually visible!

As the business world continues to evolve at incredible speed, and digital spaces become more and more ubiquitous, only businesses that embrace today’s modern world will thrive within it.
